Freeware- Software that is free of charge.
Shareware- Software that is available free of charge and often distributed informally for evaluation.
Open source- Denoting software for which the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed with or without modification.
Attribution- A quality or feature regarded as a characteristic or inherent part of someone or something.
Commercial use- One of the most significant factors for consideration regarding fair use.
Derivative- Something that is based on another source.
Share-alike- A descriptive term used in the Creative Commons project for copyright licenses which include certain copyleft provisions.
Firewall- A part of a computer system or network that is designed to block unauthorized access while permitting outward communication.
Virus- A piece of code that is capable of copying itself and typically has a detrimental effect, such as corrupting the system or destroying data.
Hacking- A piece of computer code that performs some function, esp. an unofficial alternative or addition to a commercial program.
Piracy- The unauthorized use or reproduction of another's work
Malware- Software that is intended to damage or disable computers and computer systems.
Phishing- The fraudulent practice of sending e-mails purporting to be from legitimate companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information.
Identity theft- The fraudulent acquisition and use of a person's private identifying information, usually for financial gain.
Data back-ups- Extra copies of certain information you may need.
Cloud- The practice of using a network of remote servers hosted on the Internet to store, manage, and process data.
Cookies- A packet of data sent by an Internet server to a browser, which is returned by the browser each time it subsequently accesses the same server, used to identify the user or track their access to the server
Filesharing- The practice of or ability to transmit files from one computer to another over a network or the Internet.
